SDC T20 reaches final eight

The fight for this year's Social Development Commission (SDC) Cals-sponsored National Community Twenty20 (T20) title will continue on July 29 and 30, as the eighth quarter-finalists were decided on Sunday, following the final set of matches in the national phase of the competition.

In the feature games at Boscobel Sports Complex in St Mary, Buff Bay and Links United punched their ticket to the quarter-finals following contrasting victories over Highgate and Bridgeport, respectively.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, Buff Bay secured a three-wicket win over Highgate, who first posted 156 for seven in their 20 overs, with Samuel McIntosh getting an unbeaten 36 against two wickets each for Ranjay Hill and Kevin Baugh.

Cian Jolly, 42 not out, guided Buff Bay to 158 for seven in 17 overs to seal the win.

In the second game, national batsman Tevin Gilzene hit 101 to guide Links United to 241 for two, with Amoy Campbell chipping in with 75.

Bridgeport were restricted to 160 in 19.5 overs, with national fast bowler Ojay Shields bagging four wickets for 23 runs and Gilzene grabbing three wickets for 25 runs.

In other matches at Chedwin Park, Eastwood Park got the better of May Pen Lions by two wickets to secure their spot in the final eight.

May Pen Lions made 136 for eight, with Odain McCatty getting 80, against three wickets for Fabian Forbes. Javelle Glenn hit 39 to help Eastwood Park to 140 for eight in 19.4 overs, despite four wickets for 10 runs by Glenroy Hutchinson.

Johnson Mountain climbed over Bushy Park/Church Pen to seal their quarter-finals berth. Johnson Mountain racked up 170 for eight, with Gavaska Malachi scoring 78 against four wickets for Elvis O'Connor.

Malachi and Lawrence McIntosh took two wickets each to restrict Bushy Park/Church Pen to 69 for seven.

In other games, Whitehouse eased past Orange by 10 wickets, while Elgin Town had a 53-run win over Troy CDC at Dumfries.

Junction Ballards Valley secured a six-wicket win over Comfort, while Fairfield also had a six-wicket win over Race Course at Sir P Oval.

Teams advancing to the SDC T20 national quarter-finals are: Eastwood Park, May Pen Lions, Links United, Buff Bay, Fairfield United, Junction Ballards Valley, Whitehouse and Orange C.C.
