The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has selected 19 girl footballers between the ages of 16 and 18, to participate in a two-month training programme in China this summer.

The training programme aims to develop local players and raising the national programme's competency level.

It is a resumption of the sporting agreement formed between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and China and will be the first group to make the trip since the pandemic.

The contingent will leave the island in June and return at the end of August. During their time in the Asian Republic, the players will undergo a series of intense technical training sessions to aid in their bid for promotion to the national teams.

The athletes were selected after impressing a coaching staff during multiple training sessions at the University of the West Indies (UWI)/Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence for the past three weeks.

The selected players consist of a wide spread of athletes from various parishes across the island.

The JFF states that the federation is happy with the agreement and is pleased with the timing of the programme, as it will aid youth players in Jamaica and create a vast depth in national squads.

The JFF will use the training programme as part of their short-term and long-term development strategies for the various women's national teams.
