LONDON, England (CMC):

Veteran Reggae Boy Garath McCleary has signed a contract extension with Wycombe Wanderers which will keep him at the League One club for a fifth season.

The 37-year-old bagged six goals last season, including four after the turn of the year, as Wycombe finished 10th on 65 points. He has scored 27 goals in 167 appearances for the southeast England outfit since joining them from Reading four years ago.

"I think it's been in the process for a while but thankfully it's done and we can kick on for next season," said McCleary, who made 24 appearances for Jamaica and was a member of the side that reached the final of the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup.

"I am never just one that wants to sit back and coast through. I have a lot of ambitions, I want to be able to help the squad get up and get back in the Championship.

"I know that's the same objective as the players as well so I'll be pushing them in the right direction."

Born in England, McCleary also spent several seasons at Nottingham Forest before moving to Reading where he campaigned for eight years and made nearly 250 appearances.

In the twilight of his career, McCleary had last week hinted on Instagram about the possibility of leaving the club but manager Matt Bloomfield said he was happy to have the midfielder around for yet another season.

"I've loved working with G throughout his time here and it's fantastic news that he's staying with us," said Bloomfield.

"He's been an incredible professional for this club and has continued to produce performances to the highest standard week in, week out.

"I know how well thought of he is by the fans and everyone at the club, because of the excitement he brings on the pitch and his infectious personality around the place."

He added: "His Instagram post caused a stir with fans who thought he was leaving us, but the ink is dry on his contract and I'm delighted to confirm he'll be with us for another year."
