Favourites stamp authority on Reggae 6
FAVOURITES dominated Saturday's $8,217 Reggae 6 payout, STANISLAUS being the highest-priced winner at 7-2 in the opening event, reversing 12 lengths on 2-1 favourite, COLD PURSUIT, who finished down the track in his bid for a hat-trick of wins among $250,000 claimers.
Like BABLA and SHEBOOM, recent Reggae 6 upset winners, who revered their form reporting off barn changes, STANISLAUS and COLD PURSUIT were examples of how switching stables often impact horses' performances.
STANISLAUS, a speedy 10-year-old, who has been confined to races out the straight chute due to lameness, was dismissed by COLD PURSUIT on March 2 in a five-furlong straight event.
COLD PURSUIT returned to romp a similar event a month later but was claimed by Oraldo Chin on completing back-to-back wins.
Despite the change of barn, punters widely expected COLD PURSUIT to complete the hat-trick. However, market signals showed something was afoot with STANISLAUS, twice beaten by UNDECIDED after losing to COLD PURSUIT, being backed at 7-2, reporting first time out for Delroy Wisdom.
STANISLAUS made all with claiming rider Shane Richardson, who returned to land a two-timer, going post-to-post with 6-1 upsetter ANTARCTICA in the eighth event.
COLD PURSUIT, running out of his new barn, failed to raise a hair, signalling a complete loss of form.
Panamanian jockey Victor Sanchez clearly breached the whip rules in driving home 7-5 second favourite ROSETTA in the second event, surviving a stewards' enquiry and jockey's objection from Oneil Mullings, who argued that he was being drifted in the stretch run astride runner-up BRENDA BOY.
Tevin Foster produced 6-5 favourite BURNING VALOR with a strong stretch run, just off the rail in the third, to soar past MR SENATOR getting the better of ALWAYS WRIGHT at a mile.
Foster was registering the first of two winners, returning to enjoy an armchair ride astride 3-5 fancy, ADIRA, in the sixth at six and a half furlongs.
Leading-rider Foster's two-timer put him six winners clear atop the jockeys' table, 86-80. Challenger Raddesh Roman won the fifth Reggae 6 race aboard 6-5 favourite DREAM WARRIOR at seven and a half furlongs.
Champion jockey Reyan Lewis also rode a two-timer, partnering 3-5 favourite PAPA GRAY to a romp in the fourth. He returned in division one of the Arthur Jones Memorial aboard 3-1 chance ATLANTIC CONVOY, who overpowered 4-5 favourite SENSATIONAL MOVE early in the stretch run after the speedster was bothered on the lead by POSING ALREADY and A GIFT FROM BEN, in the divided six-furlong feature.
The Reggae 6 starts with a single-winning ticket bonus of $3.4 million this Saturday.
