William Knibb pleased with improvements

WILLIAM KNIBB Memorial High School’s head coach Dwight Jeremiah expressed pleasure with his team’s improvements after their 3-0 victory over Trelawny arch-rivals Cedric Titus in their daCosta Cup Zone D football match on Saturday.
Undefeated and having not conceded a goal this season, William Knibb extended their good form by winning the opening match of the ISSA/WATA competition of a doubleheader at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium. This was after Spot Valley High beat a winless Muschett High 3-0 in the opening game.
William Knibb took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute, courtesy of Joshua Walker. Jaheem Brown scored a free kick in the 50th minute to double the lead; and some wonderful play in the middle of the park scythed open the Cedric Titus defence to allow Orville Brown a thumping finish in the 67th minute.
“I think many persons doubted us after beating Discovery Bay 1-0. We went back to training, became more creative, and the first goal epitomised everything that we did in training. You get three points, just take it and go back and work,” Jeremiah said.
“For me to be here in the stadium and the atmosphere and what happened, I say to ISSA, find your way here again,” he added of the sparingly used venue.
In the other game, Spot Valley’s Chrisano Lawrence opened the scoring in the 47th minute. After missing a penalty, Keyante Clarke, in the 52nd minute, cleaned up his mistake and doubled the score. Stevan Mullings converted in the 75th minute to finish off their opponents.
Damion Nelson, coach of Spot Valley High, says it was a rough game.
“What we prepared for was to keep the ball. We started well but weren’t getting the chances. Muschett put pressure on us, but in the second half we stepped up to the task and got the victory, Nelson said.
“It is a wonderful feeling being undefeated, but every game is like a final to us. Every team is going to come at us, so we have to just put in more work, be more consistent, and motivate the youngsters.
The result keeps William Knibb atop the zone with 12 points from their fourth win. Spot Valley are second, on goal difference, with 12 points as well, having also won four matches. Cedric Titus remain third with six points, while Muschett are in last place, without a point.
On Tuesday, William Knibb will face Spot Valley at William Knibb. Discovery Bay versus Cedric Titus at Noranda Sports Complex and Muschett versus Holland High at Muschett High.
