Weddy Weddy to celebrate 14th anniversary next week

Iconic weekly party series Weddy Weddy Wednesdays is celebrating 14 years this year and will be marking the occasion with an anniversary party at the Stone Love Headquarters next Wednesday.

The event is being hosted by the world-renowned sound system, Stone Love, in association with Elephant Man.

This year's staging will include the 'Crowning of Miss Weddy Weddy'. The competition is a way for organisers of the event to reward female patrons for their support over the years.

To be chosen as winner, the woman would have to be a repeat attendee who consistently dresses to please.

A winner for the Miss Weddy Weddy title has already been chosen, and Duane Powell, selector and son of Stone Love's leading man, Wee Pow, said the team is pleased with their decision.

"We have our winner. She's been coming to the party for five consecutive years and she's a real eye-pleaser. She truly knows how to represent," he said, urging patrons to come out and support the event.

The 14th anniversary edition of Weddy Weddy Wednesdays is set to take patrons on a trip down memory lane.

The event's very first staging was brought to fans by Stone Love in association with the late, great dancehall star, dancer and fashion icon, Bogle, and fellow energetic dancehall artiste, Elephant Man. The 'Energy God' will be returning to the stage to help deliver a nostalgic, high-energy performance.

"This year, partygoers can expect a very fun-filled night. We will be having persons from all over the globe. Expect to party with persons from England, Switzerland, Japan, North America and persons from other countries in the Caribbean," Powell said. "Weddy Weddy has been delivering a good party vibe for 14 years and we do not intend to start disappointing now."

Entertainment will be provided by Stone Love, Boom Boom and Harry Hype, Digital Chris and Nuh Grain.

Weddy Weddy has become a staple event within the dancehall culture. The event has somewhat become the authority on what's new in fashion, which artiste is hot and which is not, based on the very popular 'money-pull-ups' and crowd cheering.

The event boasts good music, high fashion and a huge network of Jamaica's top entertainers coming together in a great party vibe.

The weekly party series pulls thousands of visitors to the island every year and has become as big a tourist attraction as any.
