This holiday season, Jada Kingdom kept up with her tradition by once again completely ignoring music industry standards.

Music distributors customarily avoid Christmas Day, as the average consumer is preoccupied with consuming food and spending quality family time. Not Ms Kingdom.

For the second Christmas in a row, the young singer gave her fans a gift.

Since we are in the digital age, Kingdom didn't have to wait for a record shop to open for business. Instead, the rising singer dropped two brand new singles, Medicine and One Time.

Last year, she surprised fans with the music video for her single Unwanted. "It really got a great response. It seemed people were glad to get some new content on Christmas Day, so we decided to do it again this year," the singer explained.

Though it is not customary to release music on Christmas Day, Kingdom's logic behind releasing two songs at the same time pays homage to an older tradition. In the days of vinyl, musicians could put music on both sides of the record 'A' or 'B'.

Usually, the 'better' song would be placed on the 'A' side, and a bonus on the 'B' side. In this case, Kingdom said: "The songs are both 'A' sides for us, so we released a double A-sided single. It's also something that was done back in the days of vinyl, when both songs were strong."

Both Kingdom's new songs carry double meanings and different themes. One Time is a sultry, explicit number much more than her radio-favourite Banana. But Kingdom claims it is also the 'one time' she will make music that raunchy.

"The name of the song, it's basically the one and only time we're going to release such an X-rated record," she said.

While One Time is about sex, Medicine is a love song that could also be interpreted as a metaphor for the love of cannabis.

One Time and Medicine were produced by new production unit Khorder, comprising King Benjamin and Jaxx. According to artiste manager Julian Jones-Griffiths, the music videos for both songs would be released next month.
