Producer CJ The Chemist tries hand at deejaying

July 26, 2019

In 2017, New York-based producer CJ The Chemist found success when his song, ' Gold', was featured on the Music Liberates campaign, courtesy of Bacardi Rum and Major Lazer.

Following that endorsement, the music professional vowed to continue breaking down barriers in the entertainment industry, and it seems he has followed through on that promise. Trying his hand at deejaying, the producer has joined forces with 4th Genna artiste Shokryme to come up with his first single, Gyal Weak.

According to the producer-turned-artiste, he has had plenty of experience over the years writing songs.

"As a producer/engineer, you have to be able to assist artistes when they're recording or tracking vocals. So me doing that, I had developed some writing skills and delivery techniques, so mi just apply it wen mi a build a riddim," CJ said. He told THE WEEKEND STAR that he is ready to take on this new challenge.

"It's a different vibe being in the booth versus being behind the controls. As a producer you're mostly behind the scenes, and as an artiste, you are the scene. But, I am enjoying this new phase. So far the feedback is very positive and encouraging. People a get fi love it and a recognise the talent more. They rate me not just as a producer, but as a multitalented brand, and I look forward to growing as I do more songs."

CJ's single, Gyal Weak, oozes sex appeal and is designed for the ladies. Shokryme, who did the song with CJ, is confident that it will become a hit. He said that he and CJ will be amping up promotional efforts, especially following the release of the official music video.

"We just shot and released the visuals, so right now the focus is promotion and getting the song in heavy rotation on all the various platforms. The song has a nice vibe and I am happy with the response so far. We know that with more groundwork, this song can go places," Shokryme said.
