'Top Gyal' and ' Yamabella' are two singles currently heating up the dancehall space. In the space of three months, the tracks have catapulted Shaneil Muir from a newcomer into a force to be reckoned with on the local music circuit.

Muir, who was a contestant on the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition back in 2016, says she's ready to make her mark in the industry.

"The transition into being the Shaneil Muir today that most people know didn't just come by a snap of the finger, it really took a lot of dedication and sacrifice. But it was worth it at the end of the day because blooming into what I am right now and heading into bigger and better things, I have learnt a lot, not just about myself, but the music business. Right now, I just want to be consistent and relevant going forward," she said.

The entertainer, who celebrated her birthday on Sunday, gave insight into her journey as a musician. Under a photo of her soiled hands, which she said was taken a year ago, Muir gave thanks for the blessings she has seen over the past 12 months.

She said a year ago she had an experience where she was stranded on the roadside and was unable to call for assistance because she couldn't afford it.

PAIN AND STRUGGLE

"When I sat by the road, I took out my phone and took this picture and told myself, 'I will fix this'. 'This' didn't mean the car, 'this' meant all the pain I was going through and all the hurt I was facing and the struggles," she recalled. "I decided to tell this story today because it was after my birthday and I will never forget it. Thank you all for the continuous support and the love you have shown me."

In an interview with THE STAR, Muir says when she recorded Yamabella and Top Gyal, she hoped they'd hit but didn't hold out any expectations. Now that they have seen success, Muir says she feels a yearning to keep churning out the hits. "Consistency is key in this business, and that's what I'm aiming for right now. I just want to continue being the person I am and not change. I have big goals, big dreams for my career and I will keep pushing to make sure I achieve them," she said.

Muir recently signed a recording deal with local label, Good Good Productions.
