Magnum Queen Safiyah welcomes baby girl - Entertainer reveals struggles with infertility

When 2018 Magnum Queen Safiyah was diagnosed with endometriosis, she was told that she might never have children.

But the artiste, who recently gave birth to a healthy baby girl, told THE STAR that becoming a mother, though suffering multiple miscarriages, was a miracle.

"I was 20 years old when I was diagnosed with endometriosis and cervical insufficiency, and I, basically, broke down. I have always been a person who loves being with children, and stuff like that. I always wanted children of my own, and so hearing that and then going through miscarriages was emotionally, physically, and mentally draining," she said, noting that the issues sometimes affected her relationships. Still, she was unwilling to give up on her dreams of becoming a mother.

"I knew with the timeframe, age limitations, and so on, it would have been more difficult to get pregnant later, and so this pregnancy was planned. I had to go through it step by step with my doctor, and I was hospitalised from January. I found out I was pregnant in September," she revealed.

"It was very scary"

But despite the precaution, the entertainer still ended up having an emergency C-section. She said that at 36 weeks, she suffered placental abruption and had to be rushed to surgery.

"It was very scary, and I was worried," she recalled. "But I was raised in a Christian home, and I know the power of prayer. I prayed so much, and to be honest, I believe in miracles. There's no way I could go through this entire experience and not believe I am here, my daughter is here, without it being a miracle."

Safiyah gave birth to her daughter on May 22, but due to complications, did not get to hold her newborn until days later.

"Our lives were on the line. She was admitted due to lack of oxygen, and I was admitted for too much loss of blood. But when I was taken to the nursery to see her, I cried," she said. "I can't really explain the feeling. When they tried to put her in my hands, I was shaking, and they were saying not to panic. I was excited, scared, and just a ball of emotions."

Safiyah, who admitted that she parted company amicably with her daughter's father before the birth, said that she has been receiving tremendous support from her mother and twin sister. Right now, she is fully enjoying every moment with her bundle of joy.
