Whappingz Thursdayz celebrated another anniversary with much fanfare, flossing and excitement at Boomas Entertainment Complex, 13 Mall Road, St Andrew, last Thursday.

Entertainment-craved patrons, who were forced to social distance from events, made it clear that they were glad to be outside.

"It's really nice to be out again," said Bobby Phantom, the event's promoter .

Several notable players in the dancehall space, among them Pretty Devil, Dancing Rebel, CC, Pretty Pretty and Baby Doll, turned out for the event.

Samantha, a patron, said that the reopening of the entertainment sector means that persons can now freely attend events such as Whappingz Thursdayz. She said that during the lockdown, which was imposed by the Government last year, persons were forced to entertain themselves at secret parties.

"We never stopped partying. Right through COVID-19, when the country lockdown, we had our round robins. Nobody neva ketch a COVID-19, at least not around our circle,"she said.

"I'm really happy for this opportunity the Government has given us, 'cause now a lot of people can eat food - the hairdressers, dressmakers, the chicken man, and other vendors alike."

Over the years, Whappingz Thursdayz, a weekly party, has been a staple on the entertainment diary, pulling patrons from various parts of the island and overseas. The party started in Cockburn Gardens in St Andrew and then moved to New Kingston, before ending up at its current location.
