In 2018, singer and songwriter Lanae recorded her first single, but fast-forward five years later, the vivacious Montegonian is preparing to release her debut project, a six-track EP titled Dancehall Whine, which is executively produced by Wilmot Entertainment.

For her the project is the icing on the cake following a slew of popular singles, a collaboration with Vybz Kartel and a debut performance on Sting last December.

"I am so excited. I have been working on this for a while so I feel good," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.

"It makes me feel like an official, official artiste. Like this is a project that I sat and put together with my manager Carlington Wilmot and the rest of the team. This is the first step in the right direction and even though I have been putting out singles, putting out a body of work is just a different feeling. It feels more important and I have a lot more projects that I am working on," she continued.

With a fresh, feel-good sound, she said it was important for her to ensure the EP's name reflected exactly what it was about.

"I really wanted to make sure that my culture was prominent in the name. Like you could just hear it and know what to expect, so I definitely wanted dancehall to be in it and you know the culture is also about dancing and having fun. So [the EP] adds to that and most of the songs on there just make you want to dance and have fun. Any dancehall lover is going to be obsessed with it once they give it a listen," Lanae said. Dancehall Whine will also feature some unreleased tracks including a collaboration with Konshens.

Lanae plans to continue aiming to level up through out 2023 and is anticipating heading on her first tour.

"We were supposed to [go on tour] last year but the timing was not perfect, so now that I am dropping the EP, I am going on tour in May. So it is official and that is what I am doing this year. It is all so exciting and the tour name is the same as my EP," she said.

Throughout her journey in the business so far, she continues to keep focused on her mission and passion for music, employing the lessons she has learned to keep her on track.

"You have to believe that you are good and you are good at what you do. Work on your craft and you will get where you want to be," she said.
