Diiverse channels pain into song

As she recovers from injuries, Canada-based dancehall artiste Diiverse has used her pain to pen a song titled Man's World, which has been released.

The track describes her assault on stage during a performance on a show in April in Canada, when she was injured by a microphone which was flung by a man who is said to be a recording artiste.

"The creative process involved me just putting everything down on paper, and it's like I am speaking everything that I was thinking at that moment in time in a man's world. I was like thinking, 'Would you do this to your mother and your sister?' And how men think that they can do whatever they want to women and it's OK?" she shared.

She said that the single is an "upliftment song for women who have ever been hurt or abused".

"For me, the song is like a reminder of the situation. I'm trying to move past the incident, but the song is still being received well. I get a lot of comments on my YouTube page. The negativity is not that much any more; it's mainly just encouragement I have been getting," she said.

Diiverse noted, however, that she is left with visible reminders of the day she was attacked.

"Physically, my eye is not swollen any more, but there is a scar over the left eye that doesn't seem to be going away. So when I wash my face, I still feel it; it's like a big bump. I'm also doing physio for my back, because I have severe back pain most times when I wake up in the morning. I have to be taking medication for it and doing physio," she shared.

Diiverse was injured after the man, who walked onstage during her performance, grabbed the microphone from her, moved her aside and started addressing the audience. He threw the microphone after she nudged him. The incident was caught on video and went viral, sparking public debate on social media as the still-unidentified man remains at large.
