Powerhouse women to rock Tuesday Service
The Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew is set to come alive today as DubSquad Band teams up with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) to celebrate the first anniversary of Tuesday Service -- a grassroots movement that has quickly grown into one of the hottest live music events on the island.
Now an official highlight of the 2025 Wray and Nephew Reggae Month Calendar, the event promises a powerhouse line-up of reggae and soul-infused performances, featuring special guests Jah9, RAS-I, Sevana, Jaz Elise, and Joby Jay, with more surprise acts expected to take the stage.
What began as a small weekly jam session, originally dubbed DubSquad Live, has blossomed into a cultural phenomenon.
Since its launch last February, Tuesday Service has transformed Kingston's local music scene, attracting a melting pot of musicians, rising stars, and reggae enthusiasts to The Compound every Tuesday night.
"The vibe we've created is something special. It's not just another show -- it's a community where music breathes and evolves," said DubSquad's bassist Kawain Williamson.
The band, known for its dynamic sound and rich musical versatility, is composed of Grammy-nominated heavyweights: Nicolas Groskopf (lead guitarist), Ottmar Campbell (keyboardist), Keneil Delisser (drummer/producer), and Williamson on bass. Their combined resumes boast collaborations with some of Jamaica's biggest names, including Koffee, Buju Banton, and Damian Marley, making them one of the most respected live bands on the scene today.
"DubSquad's sound is rooted in reggae, but we push the boundaries. We bring elements of soul, dub, rock, and jazz into the mix," explained Campbell.
"That's why Tuesday Service works -- it's organic, it's unpredictable, and it's a true reflection of Jamaica's evolving music culture," he said.
Headliner Jah9, celebrated for her 'yoga on dub' style and conscious lyricism, is expected to deliver her signature blend of roots reggae and spoken word.
Similarly, RAS-I's smooth vocals and jazz-influenced reggae sound will add another layer of richness to the line-up, while Sevana, Jaz Elise, and Joby Jay will bring a fresh, soulful energy to the stage, representing the new wave of female voices in Jamaican music.
