Salome 'Miss Dottie' Brooks was remembered as a faithful churchgoer by Yvonne Brooks, who gave the remembrance at her thanksgiving service on Saturday, November 14, at Santa Hill New Testament Church of God, Clarendon.

She recalled Salome as a woman of faith who was outspoken; and so dedicated to the work of the Lord that she would walk for miles to go to church.

Known to her for 50 years, Brooks said her colleague in the Lord worked with her for 40 years and was one of the most kind-hearted woman she had ever known.

The late Brooks was eulogised by Chrystal and Salena Robinson as a woman of strong principles, who never lived a luxurious or flashy life. They added that she was fond of a strong cup of coffee, mixed with vanilla.

Tributes were in abundance for the late churchwoman. In his tribute, Member of Parliament Audley Shaw said he was happy to have been in attendance at the thanksgiving service of a stalwart. He said she lived a good family life on which the foundation of good communities and a good country is built.

"I am proud of the entire Brooks, family. She has lived a good life, and will long be remembered for the life she lived. She will be remembered by the good she has done," said Shaw.

Leroy Mitchell remembered 'Miss Dottie' as a woman who served God well. He added that she was a real darling, not only to her widower, William Brooks, and her children, but also to all whom she met during her time.

"She was a woman of prayer, who loved to pray for others. She and William laid a good foundation for the community of Chudleigh in Manchester where they live for many years. Chudleigh has lost an icon," noted Mitchell.

Justice of the peace and Christiana businessman, Vernon Lewis, said he met Brooks in church. He shared that though she attended the Santa Hill New Testament Church of God in Clarendon, she was a member of his fasting and prayer group at his church, the Bryce United Church in Manchester. He stated as a woman with a most beautiful voice, who lived a wonderful life as a woman and a Christian, and would be sadly missed.

Eda McLaren said Brooks, who passed October 17, was a great Christian at heart.

"She was sick but she praised God, even during her painful moments. She has left a legacy for others to cherish," said McLaren.

Reverend Dr Donald Johnson eulagised, 'Miss Dottie' as a great soldier. He said she was gone but will never be forgotten. Johnson noted that death brings pain, but not for Christians, adding that she lived a full life as a Christian and, especially, as a prayer warrior.

Brooks, the first child for Catherine and Septimus Williams of Wildcane St Ann, was born on April 6, 1938. She left behind, to cherish her memories, seven children, sisters, brothers, grand and great-grand children, numerous other relatives and precious friends.

Her body was buried at the Santa Hill New Testament Church cemetery.
