Wanted: Bubbly bartender and chef
Like to cook? Maybe you're able to make a mean mixed drink that packs a punch. Well, you're in luck.
A St Catherine-based establishment is currently on the lookout for some new bubbly personalities to join their team in bar and restaurant positions.
THE STAR, this week in its Jobs & Careers feature is making a match between employers and employees. After searching the Gleaner Classifieds for job vacancies, our news team connected with the 38-year-old proprietor of a bar and a restaurant in Spanish Town.
"It's two separate places. One Stop Restaurant and the bar is inside Angelica's Variety Store," the proprietor said. "We serve excellent Jamaican food and provide excellent service at the bar. We are located right in the Spanish Town bus terminus right next to the train station."
The entity's management team is now tasked with finding an "experienced chef and bartender".
"The bartenders must be persons who know how to interact with people well," she said. "For the chef, you have to love cooking. They can't just be doing their jobs because they are being paid."
The businesswoman said her requirements for her potential employees are pretty simple. Candidates may not need any sort of qualifications per se, but must be well presented and able work well in fast-paced environments and possess a passion for hospitality. Persons must also be able to show a willingness to learn and grow the business while displaying a reliable, vibrant and confident personality.
"I would like the chef to be certified, or at least experienced, in the preparation of local dishes," the businesswoman explained. "It would be good if the bartender has some idea of mixology. If not, then I guess she should be someone who can relate to everybody who comes along."
The proprietor told our news team that she would prefer to have a female fill the bartender vacancy and a male for her chef position.
"I prefer the chef to be male, and a female for the bartender," she explained. "For a female bartender, men will come in and be more relaxed and spend more with them. If a man comes to a bar, he will (more easily) break down and open up to a woman."
Interested persons can contact the organisation at 876-793-6300. Persons must be between the ages of 20 and 30.
