Trinidad police dismiss bomb threat at police station
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has described as “fake news” reports of a bomb threat at the Besson Street Police Station that had been the scene of gunfire when criminal gangs were engaged in killings in late December.
The incident led to a state of emergency being declared in Trinidad and Tobago with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley telling a news conference last Friday that the authorities had also received “information of retaliatory actions” that would “more than likely occur in the days to follow”.
In a statement, the TTPS said it is aware of circulating information suggesting a bomb threat at the police station, but “ we can confirm that, as of this time, there have been no reports or evidence supporting such a threat at the station.
“The TTPS remains vigilant, and all police stations across the country continue to operate on heightened alert in alignment with security protocols during the ongoing State of Emergency."
“Public safety remains our highest priority, and we are actively monitoring and addressing any potential threats,” the police said, adding “we urge members of the public to remain calm and refrain from sharing unverified information that may cause unnecessary panic”.
The TTPS said it would continue to provide updates as necessary.
