No money to bury man killed at Dovecot
Shortly before the death of her son, Isaac, Maria Foster was hospitalised for hypertension and a few other ailments.
Although she has been discharged, her condition has worsened, according to her daughter Alicia Baker-Clarke. She said her mother's blood pressure is out of control and her heart is broken. Family members say they are keeping a close eye on her as she remains stressed and restless.
"She tries to sleep but for some reason, she can't close her eyes because she said she keeps seeing his body at the hospital. Sometimes she just walk out the yard and is up and down the road, so mi and my brother have to go and bring her back. She is broken and shattered," Baker-Clarke said.
Isaac, 23, was shot and killed by a licensed firearm holder on December 30 following a bizarre incident at Dovecot No.2 Cemetery. The youngster was seen jumping the wall to the cemetery, went to a graveside, and pulled a woman's body from her casket to the ground.
As she mourns her son, Foster said she is not in a financial position to bury him and is seeking the public's assistance.
"As I close my eyes, I see my son. Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy. I don't know how we are going to bury him as we don't have the money. I am very sick so I can't work. Is rent I pay over by Kitson Town for the one room that we were living in, but I am not going back there. Is seven years his father died and the burial cost is very high. We a try but we gonna need some support, so anyone can help us, please I am asking you to," she said.
Foster was visibly too stressed to continue the interview and was assisted by Baker-Clarke, who said while they have been checking out funeral packages, they have not yet collected an invoice as the autopsy has not yet been conducted. However, she stated that they will be leaning towards the most affordable option and will be burying him at May Pen Cemetery, located along Spanish Town Road.
"My mother is stressed to the point where she can't look at my brother's photos. We don't even know what is the next step because it is the first time we are experiencing something like this. We are living hand to mouth and we basically not earning the way we supposed to. Any assistance at all we can get, we would very much appreciate it," she said.
"I watched the video of my brother getting killed just once and I passed out, and my mother had to throw water on me. So I don't watch it again, and neither has my mother. My brother was not a mad or bad person and I can't believe him just gone so. I keep thinking about how the matter was handled and what could have been done to prevent it. He was clearly not in his right mind. He was clearly demon possessed," Baker-Clarke said.
She said she is also refuting rumours circulating on social media that members of her family are threatening the firearm holder.
"Those are lies. We have not sent any threats to anyone. We are a very peaceful and humble family and the type who will get bullied and go pray. It is just God. God has always been our defender and no one else, so we would never ever threaten anyone. We are just leaning on God at this time," she said.
