Teenagers sentenced for robbery

Two teenagers accused of robbing a woman were sentenced to community service in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

Charged with robbery with aggravation are Rojae Gaynor, 18, and a 14-year-old boy.

Allegation are that on the day of the incident, Gaynor and his co-accused used a knife to rob a woman in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew. The matter was reported to the police and the pair arrested.

"You are becoming a little thief! You! And you are encouraging the little one," Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said to Gaynor.

"If the lady formed the fool, then you would have stabbed her. When you do that sort of thing, you must understand yourself!"

The sitting magistrate appeared unsettled by a statement given by Gaynor in his probation report, implying that he was led to rob the complainant. She instead believed it was Gaynor who had influenced the 14-year-old.

"This little story you make up, and tell the probation office, is not going to fly. Not with me! Your're telling me that this little boy carry you go to rob people with knife?" RM Pusey said.

Both accused were

sentenced to 150 hours of community service.

"Do the work. If you don't do it, it's two years," RM Pusey concluded.
