Female attacker remanded for sentencing

A woman accused of assaulting another, damaging property in the process, was further remanded when she appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Charged with malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm is 34-year-old office attendant Monifa Hall.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, the female complainant was walking along a section of Tower Street in downtown Kingston when she felt something hit her from behind.

The complainant reportedly turned around and saw the accused woman armed with a piece of iron pipe in one hand, and a ratchet knife in the other. The complainant was afterwards struck by the accused, with the iron pipe, on her right hand, causing swelling to her thumb.

A cell phone being carried by the complainant at the time of the alleged attack, was hit to the ground, resulting in its screen being shattered.

It is also said the accused woman continued the alleged attack by throwing stones at the complainant, one of which hit her on the right knee, causing swelling and abrasions.

Following a report made to the police, an investigation was launched.

Hall was taken into custody by lawmen. She was arrested and slapped with the charges.

In court, the cause of the attack was not given. however, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Hall further remanded until November 5 when she will be sentenced.
