Bearer remanded for fleecing women

November 13, 2015

A bearer accused of obtaining money under false pretences, promising jobs when he knew he was unable to do so, was ordered remanded in custody when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Tuesday.

Charged with two counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence and two counts of failing to issue a receipt is Corie Reid, 47, of Hibiscus Drive, Kingston 6.

Allegations are that, sometime in June this year, two female complainants in the matter gave the accused man a total sum of $100,000 for overseas employment, as was agreed by them. The money was not returned, as requested, nor was employment forthcoming.

Following reports made by the complainants, Reid was arrested and charged.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Corie remanded, pending a mention hearing on November 30.
