Man fined for stealing wallet

A man accused of stealing a wallet was ordered to pay a fine when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Tuesday.

Charged with larceny by finding is Lambert Lindsay, who pleaded guilty with explanation.

Allegations are that, on December 15, the accused man was reportedly walking along a thoroughfare when it is said that a wallet belonging to the male complainant fell from his person. It is said that the accused, who witnessed the wallet fall, speedily proceeded to take possession of it without duly notifying its rightful owner about what had occurred.

The court heard that the wallet contained $20,000, which the accused man tried to run away with. It is said the accused made a hasty retreat with the complainant's wallet, but was soon caught.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police. The accused was later arrested and charged.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Lindsay to pay a fine of $15,000, or serve six months in prison. A fingerprint order was also made against him.
