INDECOM probes fatal shooting

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a civilian in Bamboo Lane in Morant Bay, St Thomas, on Wednesday.

Dead is 22-year-old Shamar Elliot.

THE STAR gathered that initial reports from the police were that an unknown assailant murdered Elliot. However, after

visiting the scene, residents insist that a policeman was also involved in the shooting.

Our news desk understands that several witnesses have come forward and have given statements to the INDECOM investigators.

On Thursday, several placard-bearing residents blocked sections of the Morant Bay main road in the morning to protest the fatal shooting.

The St Thomas police told THE STAR that their investigations are ongoing.
