Elderly man pleads guilty to forgery

A 75-year-old man, who attempted to use forged documents to retain his motor vehicle from police custody, pleaded guilty to fraud when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

Glasford Lewis pleaded guilty to uttering forged documents and attempting to obtain a vehicle with forged documents.

Lewis' car was reportedly seized by the police after a traffic violation.

The accused later turned up at the police station with papers attempting to recover his car.

Checks by the police revealed that the documents were not legitimate. Lewis' lawyer told the court that he had attained the documents from his sons and unknowingly presented fraudulent documents.

FINED

The accused was fined $30,000 or six months imprisonment for uttering forged documents and $20,000 or six months for attempting to obtain a vehicle with forged documents.
