Man on housebreaking charge gets bail

A man, who prosecutors say was caught on surveillance camera breaking into a home in Cherry Gardens, St Andrew, recently, was denied bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Residents Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with housebreaking and larceny is Kenardo Palmer.

He pleaded not guilty to this offence, though it was revealed that he was on bail for a similar offence.= During a bail application from his attorney, the court heard further incriminating allegations. Investigators revealed that a receipt with $300,000 was found on the accused and when further checks were made, receipts totalling $4,000,000 in the sale of gold were unearthed.

The accused denied breaking into the house and Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told the attorney that she needed to see the footage before she considers bail.

The court also heard that when the footage was taken to Palmer's mother, she allegedly identified the person in the footage as her son.

"Your Honour, how can a man be reporting to the police every other day and be out breaking house?" questioned Palmer's attorney.

Senior RM Pusey replied, "It happens all the time ... "

Palmer was further remanded and is to return to court on February 29.
