Clothes vendor killed in May Pen

March 17, 2016

Rush hour pedestrians were sent scampering for cover as gunshots rang out in the May Pen town centre in Clarendon, about 6 p.m. yesterday.

When the firing subsided, a clothes and shoe vendor, Junior 'JJ' Lampart, was found lying in a pool of blood.

Police personnel who were patrolling nearby rushed to the scene, and took the injured man to the May Pen Hospital where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

Lampart's death follows a similar incident on Monday in which 48-year-old nightclub operator, Ewarton 'Hayga' Mundle, was shot and killed, while playing football in the West Park area of May Pen. Also this week, another man was shot and injured in the Buck's Common area in the parish.

"I don't know if all three incidents are mere coincidence, or is the beginning of a new spiral of violence in the parish, but I hope it's just mere coincidence," a senior cop said.
