Jamaican held in US driver's license, passport fraud

A Jamaican man is now facing five years in prison after he was held trying to use a US citizen's identity in order to obtain a driver's licence and US passport in the state of Virginia, THE STAR has learnt.

According to www.statejournal.com, Roland Jason Duckett, 31, said he paid someone for identification documents in August, including a birth certificate and social security card, so he could get a West Virginia driver's licence in that person's name.

THE STAR gathered that the following month, he tried to use the documents to get a US passport, but the State Department flagged his application that was mailed from Charleston in South Carolina.

Agents with the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service uncovered the fraud and determined Duckett's true identity.

On Monday in court, Duckett admitted that he stole another man's identity to obtain official documents.

His sentencing is set for July 8 and he faces up to five years in federal prison.

THE STAR understands that Duckett entered the US from Jamaica in 2007 and stayed until after his visa expired.
