Slain cop was a robber - INDECOM
Following a high-level probe into the shooting death of a 25-year-old police constable in Hopewell, Hanover, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has now concluded that the deceased was in fact a robber.
Reports are that constable K'mar Beckford attempted to rob Lorna's Bar and Grill in Hopewell, Hanover on April 4, 2015. At that time, Beckford was challenged by patron and police officer Inspector Wayne Jacobs to a brief gun battle, leaving Beckford dead.
INDECOM also recommended that no criminal charges should be laid against Inspector Jacobs, nor should any disciplinary action taken. The body also said the matter should be referred to the Coroner's Court to determine whether further investigation is required.
