August 09, 2016
A man is now in custody facing ganja-related charges after he was caught transporting more over 300 pounds of ganja on Molynes Road, St Andrew, yesterday.
Reports are that police attached to the St Andrew Central Division were on patrol doing routine spot checks at about 9 a.m., when they stopped a Toyota Townace motor vehicle, which was subsequently searched.
During the search, 345 pounds of compressed ganja was found disguised as breadcrumbs in boxes with false compartments. The illicit drug has an estimated street value of J$1.7 million.
Consequently, the sole occupant of the vehicle was arrested, and is to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney, after which formal charges are expected to be laid.
