Cabbie stabbed in groin for blocking road

A former taxi driver who was charged with wounding with intent was hauled before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

The accused, Jevan Johnson, 30, is alleged to have stabbed another taxi driver in the groin area after they got into a dispute on August 18.

According to Johnson's lawyer, his client asked the other taxi driver to move a car that was blocking the intersection of Duke and Sutton streets in Kingston. It is said that they got into a tussle, and the complainant left and returned with two car loads of men who then proceeded to beat Johnson with a pipe.

It is reported that Johnson escaped the beating and got a weapon from a pineapple vendor within the vicinity.

ALTERCATION

He and the complainant later got into another altercation. This time at the intersection of Duke and East Queen streets, where the complainant was parked.

It is reported that Johnson threw the knife through the window of the complainant's vehicle, injuring him in the groin area. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was treated.

After hearing the story, Judge Simone Wolf-Reece questioned the ownership of the road. "Who own Sutton Street?," she asked.

"I assume the Crown," the lawyer responded.

Johnson was remanded in custody until October 31, when the matter will be tried.
