A St Andrew man was today convicted of murder for shooting a resident of August Town five times because he did not give him a $1,000.

Jason Brown found guilty by a seven-member jury in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.

He will be sentenced on June 2.

Prosecutors Claudette Thompson and Shauna-Kay James led evidence that on March 14, 2008, Denver Hibbert and members of his family were at their August Town, St Andrew, home having lunch when Brown and an accomplice called him outside.

Brown asked for "a gran" [$1,000] and Hibbert, with whom he is acquainted, responded by saying he did not have any money at the time.

According to prosecutors, the  accomplice then shot Hibbert after which Brown took the gun and pumped five more bullets into the man's body before escaping.
