A St Andrew man who shouted the name 'Lucifer' before fatally stabbing a woman he met on social media is among several convicted killers who are in line to benefit from yesterday's Sentence Reduction Day.

Appearing in the Home Circuit Court, Kino Gilzeane pleaded not guilty to murder, but said that he was guilty of manslaughter in the death of Sudean Jackson in December 2014.

Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn indicated that she accepted Gilzeane's plea on the basis of "diminished responsibility."

A psychiatric report included in the case file has revealed that he suffers from schizophrenia. He will be sentenced on December 15.

Sentence Reduction Day is one of several initiatives implemented by court officials to reduce the backlog of cases in the Home Circuit Court.

It allows an accused person to plead guilty and become eligible for a 50 per cent reduction in sentence.

Prosecutors say Gilzeane and Jackson met on Facebook before the young woman visited his St Andrew home on December 9, 2014.

The two had sex before Jackson indicated that she was ready to leave. But according to prosecutors, Gilzeane objected.

"He placed a sheet over her head and called out the name of Lucifer to give him the strength and then stabbed her," Llewellyn said in court.

He reportedly hid the body under a bed and later got his sister to help him dispose of the body before telling her that Jackson was killed by three masked robbers who broke into the home.

Llewellyn said her office is contemplating what charge, if any, to file against his sister.

Close to 30 persons pleaded guilty to murder, wounding with intent and having sex with a person under 16 years old.
