Young farmer's mom grateful for support

Since THE WEEKEND STAR carried the story of Conroy Shakespeare, a 12-year-old starting his own little farming business with six chickens, the response has been overwhelming.

"We are very happy and grateful for all the people who have helped and those who say they are going to help. I thank you very much," Simone Spence said as she explained that people from all over the world want to help her son's dream of owning his own farm come true.

The mother of three said they are seeing brighter days as her son embarks on his entrepreneurial journey.

"So far people pledge five pigs and two goats and others a seh they will send money for us to buy chicken, but the coop nuh finish build yet. Every day him seh, 'Mommy, hurry up and build the coop'. Him just want it mek," she said.

Spence said that she is determined to get a better life through the help she has been receiving. After years of trying to stay afloat financially, she said that the help they have received has gone a long way and she thanked all who have touched their lives through prayers and giving.

She said that despite what people may think, her family is capable of managing a farm because it is now their main source of income.

She said that she is also very happy that her son is showing this type of enthusiasm in wanting to do something that is beneficial not only to him but the well-being of his younger siblings.

"Mi a go help him out man and get things done. A fi him idea and me grateful for him that he wants to help out, so I am going to play my part as well. People ask me to open an account for him and that is what I am going to do. I want them to know that what they sending the money for, is what I am using it to do," she said.
