Barrett Hall murder to take place next year

October 23, 2018

Two St James men who are charged with the 2017 shooting death of Barrett Hall resident Richard Campbell will have their matter heard in the St James Circuit Court on May 20, 2019.

Shuwain Pinnock and Jermaine Blair, who are charged with murder in relation to Campbell's death, were given the new date and were remanded in custody following their appearance before High Court Justice Sharon George last Thursday.

Allegations are that on the morning of October 21, 2017, Campbell was walking along the Barrett Hall main road to fetch water, when he was approached by a group of three men who shot him several times. Campbell was subsequently pronounced dead at hospital.

VIDEO PARADE IDENTIFICATION

It is further alleged that on November 11 that year, Blair was pointed out in a video identification parade as one of the shooters. Both Blair and Pinnock were subsequently charged with Campbell's murder.

On Thursday, the prosecution opposed bail for Blair on the grounds that he had another case before the Western Regional Gun Court at the time of Campbell's death.

However, Blair's attorney, Khadine Colman, argued that her client was never alleged to be in possession of a firearm, and that he could produce witnesses to testify that he was not in Barrett Hall when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, Pinnock did not have a lawyer present to speak on his behalf.

Justice George subsequently ordered that both defendants should be remanded until May 20, 2019, when the case will be heard.
