4-H Club Achievement Expo set for next week

The St Elizabeth 4-H Club will host its Achievement Expo next Thursday, March 14 at the Alpart Sports Complex in the parish.

Under the theme 'Eco-based Adaptation Strategies: A 4-H Response to Climate Smart Agriculture', several school clubs from across the parish will be showing off their skills in agriculture, home economics and public speaking.

Last Thursday, Sydney Pagon Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy, hosted 40 school groups in some finals for Agriculture, Public Speaking and Home Economics. 

Keisha Johnson, parish manager of the St Elizabeth 4-H Club, said the most competitive event, based on feedback from the judges, was the table setting competition for students ages nine to 12.

“It is an event that we look forward to the primary schools coming out to participate. We have done much zone training, parish training, and club training in this event, and the schools came out and showed us what they learnt,” she said.

In terms of the other areas, Johnson said: "There is room for improvement, but all in all, we thought base on our previous competitions, this year was a good year, based on the products these students brought to the table.”

The final set of showdowns will be on next Thursday, the same day the winners of all the competitions will be known.

There will also be the boy and girl of the year, both at the national level. Each will walk away with J$1 million each.
