Accused goat thieves freed of charges

Two St James men who were arrested last October for allegedly stealing goats were freed of the charges when they appeared in the St James Parish Court last Thursday.

Delroy Brown, 44, of an Albion address, and 67-year-old Errol Campbell of Glendevon, were before the court on praedial larceny charges.

Allegations are that on October 19, 2018, the police were patrolling along the Salt Spring main road when they stopped a motor vehicle being driven by Brown along with Campbell.

The vehicle was searched and two goats were found in the back.

When questioned by the officers, Brown and Campbell could not give a satisfactory account of how they had come to be in possession of the goats.

They were subsequently taken into custody and charged, and the goats’ owner later came and identified the animals.

On Thursday, Judge Sandria Wong-Small was told that the complainant had received his goats and that he had no further interest in pursuing the case.

As a result, the court offered no further evidence against Brown and Campbell.

“Please make sure that I don’t see you here again,” Wong-Small warned the two men as they left the courtroom.
