A United States (US) veterinarian who fell four floors from a hotel balcony in Montego Bay, St James, on the weekend while walking in his sleep, had to be airlifted to a medical institution in his home country after suffering severe injuries.

He has been identified as 49-year-old Brett Jones, of Dallas, in the US.

Reports by the Freeport police are that about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jones, who was on vacation with his family at a popular resort in the city, got up from his bed and walked on to the balcony.

He climbed over the railing and stepped into open air, falling from the fourth floor of the resort.

He fell on the pavement below and was rendered unconscious. A duty manager at the resort who was doing his rounds stumbled upon the visitor, who was lying in a pool of blood, and raised an alarm.

Jones was immediately rushed to a medical facility where he received treatment, because of his condition, his wife, who was shocked to discover that her husband had got out of bed, insisted that he be airlifted to the US for treatment.

Before leaving the island, Jones reportedly told investigators that he was dreaming that he was chasing a man, and later in his dream, he was being chased.
