Cops to flood St Bess streets - New Supt promise more police operations, foot patrols

Superintendent Samuel Morgan, the new head of the St Elizabeth police, has robust policing in the parish as he seeks to make the south central parish one of the safest in Jamaica.

"There are a number of things I want to improve on, and critical to that is how we interface with our citizens," said Superintendent Morgan, who arrived in the parish on July 15.

"Also, (I want) to enhance our operational activities within the parish to make sure our citizens are safe."

So far, he said, the reception has been very warm, and the citizens are very corporative. The policemen and women are well motivated. They are prepared to work, and I am prepared to continue that," he told members of the media during a press conference at his office in Black River on August 2.

St Elizabeth has recorded 16 murders since the start of the year. There have also been several cases of robberies and break-ins.

"We have had a number of incidents. I have assessed them, and I believe, at this juncture, we have a plan in place that will reduce the recurrence of some of these incidents significantly," he said.

"I want to assure the citizens of St Elizabeth that the police will be occupying the spaces. We will be engaging in a number of operational activities. Our foot patrols will be seen in the market districts, in the town centres, and we will be on mobile patrols. We will be having our raids. We will be having our robust police activities that will provide reassurance and also ensure that the citizens are safe," Morgan added.
