Spanish Town High celebrates young scholars
It was an historic occasion for Spanish Town High School in St Catherine, where 20 students from grades nine and 10 were rewarded for their success in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate exams.
The candidates did English A, integrated science, geography and mechanical technology, and passed with grades one and two.
"I feel very good for you all, as it is history that you were allowed to sit CSEC. I believe in you and you've proved the doubters wrong. I must implore you all to continue to strive for academic pursuit as it is the greatest asset you can ever have," principal Dr Ventley Brown said.
The students were feted last Friday at a luncheon at Cecil's Restaurant on Martin Street in Spanish Town
Brown implored the students to be change agents for their peers.
"You can do it, as I have done it through trying circumstances. I had one khaki suit and ate scrambled eggs and breadfruit, it's all my mother could afford," he said.
He noted that after being given a chance to complete Garvey Maceo High, he was able to rise to the post of principal.
He thanked the teachers for their efforts in giving the students their full attention. Each student was given a certificate of appreciation by the principal at the luncheon.
Nichardo James and Sackay Young spoke on behalf of their peers and promised to be good ambassadors for the 52-year-old institution.
