It has been 24 years since the National Hairdresser Association decided to have a conference of sorts that highlights local and overseas persons in the hair and beauty world.

Since its inception, many persons have come on board such as spas and financial institutions.

Bevene Alvaranga, president of the association, said the event exposes cosmetologists and hairdressers to new trends in the industry.

Direct contact

There were many haircare booths; one that stood out is a company owned by Derrick Smith and Denese Hamilton. The 'Perfect Hair' business partners have been around for the past seven years, and, according to Hamilton, being at the conference gives local business owners, like herself, an opportunity to have a direct contact with potential customers.

"As a local brand, if we don't attend these shows, we will go under. These people are number one on our list to use our products. With schools here, we want the children to know that these products are available. Through these events, people can know that local brands that are 100 per cent natural can compete internationally. We have great herbs in this country that we use to make products that work. We get a lot of information from SRC (Scientific Research Council), so we use the natural products here to make the products and keep products at a good level," she said.
