Man stabbed to death on Christmas morning

While many were fast asleep on Christmas morning, 33-year-old Sheldon Reid was being stabbed to death in his community by an unknown assailant.

The gruesome incident took place some time after 5 a.m. on Fifth Street in Trench Town, leaving his family in mourning.

Sandy Barrett, his cousin, who lives in the same community, saidy that she spoke with him a few hours before his tragic end.

She told THE STAR that she saw him when she returned home a little after 1 a.m.

"Me come last night from town, some minutes to one and when me come, me pull me gate. As me pull me gate, me hear me cousin gate pull too. So me climb up and look and me see him. Him seh the rain mash up the Christmas hustling and me seh yea man," Barrett said.

After they finished talking, she said she left him outside and went to bed. A few hours later, she was awaken with shouts of 'dem kill Sheldon' echoing through the yard.

Six or seven stab wounds

"Me neva really know a wah time ... me just know seh me run out ina me panty den me go back in fi one blanket. A hear me hear somebody run come seh dem kill Sheldon. Him a seh a car lick dung Sheldon ... a when we run go out deh now go look, we realise seh a stab him get. Dem stab him up. Me see bout six or seven stab wounds, plus him hand have one chop," she said.

Meanwhile, Amanda Reid, another cousin who lives in the same yard, said she was speaking to him on the phone mere minutes before she heard the news.

"Me call Sheldon 4:35 a.m. You see when me call him, him did ina him house. After me done talk to him, round 15 to 25 minutes after, me come over here come see the door push up. Me seh 'Sheldon, Sheldon' and me nah get no answer. Me have it seh the door lock, so me push through me finger fi move the bolt ... me realise seh me nah feel the bolt," she said.

Realising that the door was left open, she pushed it and went in, finding an empty house.

"Me a seh to myself 'a weh Sheldon gone and me just talk to him?' When me look, somebody run come a bawl and a seh Sheldon dead. Me seh no sah, me just talk to Sheldon. Wah kinda dead Sheldon fi go dead?" she said. "When me run go dung deh, him phone well lock ina him hand. Dem think Sheldon have a bag a money true him juggle a town and tru a Christmas."

The Denham Town police say investigations are ongoing.
