Relatives say ‘Harry Dog’ was a loving father

As Jane* and Jill* looked at the spot where their father, Harry McLeod was murdered, they couldn't help but clutch each other tightly, weeping.

McLeod, 51, was gunned down yesterday morning on Darling Street, downtown Kingston. Nicknamed 'Harry Dog', he was a reputed top lieutenant of former West Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.

A few years ago, McLeod was also listed as a 'major person of interest' in relation to crimes committed in the Kingston Western Police Division. He was, however, acquitted of several charges laid against him in 2015 as the prosecution was unable to mount a case against him.

Jane told THE STAR that she was at home when she heard of her dad's death.

"Me did down a my house a tidy up, and my mother call me and say, 'Don't bother cry, but them kill your father'," she said. "Me did just have to start cry because I love my father, and we very close. Even my big sister drop down."

Police reports are that about 7:50 a.m., McLeod was standing on the road when a silver motor car with several men aboard approached him. The men opened gunfire on McLeod before escaping. He was assisted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jill is also finding it hard to cope, especially as she wasn't expecting to lose her father so tragically.

Me heart don't strong

"Me nuh know how me a go manage because me heart don't strong. Me never a expect nothing like this to happen to daddy," she said. One of McLeod's brothers said he was at work when he heard the bad news.

"Right now it rough, but me gwan drink some beer and hold it. Is just one of those days," he said. Karen, one of McLeod's babymothers, told THE STAR that though he had about 14 children, he went above and beyond for all of them.

"He was a loving person, and if you get to know him, you would know that he is jovial. Me and him never in a relationship, but he was my babyfather same way, and me still feel it say him gone," she said.
