Cops probe two killings on Christmas Sunday
Investigators in the St Catherine North Police Division were kept busy on Christmas Sunday, as two men were shot dead by gunmen in the Lakes Pen community.
In the first incident, reports are that at 11:55 a.m., 30-year-old Rasheed Meyers, otherwise called 'Mawga Man', a labourer of Lakes Pen, was shot and killed by unknown persons. Meyers was walking along a roadway when he was shot multiple times. Police personnel converged on the area; however, the perpetrators escaped.
In the second incident, explosions were heard in the neighbouring Quarry Hill community. Residents summoned the police who, upon their arrival, found the body of an unidentified male lying in a pool of blood near a motor car. Checks revealed that the body had multiple gunshot wounds.
No motive has been established in either incident, but the police are maintaining a presence in the area. The police division has seen a reduction in homicides for 2021 with 99 murders, compared to 128 for the corresponding period in 2020.
