Electrician charged with murder
Ricardo McKenzie, otherwise called '35', an electrician of Shrewsbury district, Petersfield in Westmoreland, has been arrested and charged with the murder of a man and the wounding of another following an incident on December 7.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Ricko Torrington, a bike taxi operator in the parish.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 9 p.m., Torrington and another man were travelling on a motorcycle, when, on reaching a section of the roadway, McKenzie opened gunfire at them. The men ran but were later found with multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. They were taken to hospital where Torrington was pronounced dead and the other man treated and released.
On December 13, McKenzie was arrested during an operation in his community and later charged with murder, wounding with intent, unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon and using a firearm to commit a felony, following an interview.
