Patron disarms thieves, hands over gun to cops
One Taurus 9mm pistol with four 9mm rounds of ammunition was handed over to the Manchester police following a failed robbery on Perth Road on Tuesday.
Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 7 p.m., armed men pounced upon persons in a bar and robbed them of their properties. The men then proceeded to rob a poker box in the establishment, when one of the persons in the bar managed to disarm them. The assailants subsequently fled the scene. The police were summoned and upon arrival, the firearm and ammunition were handed over to them. Investigations continue.
Also on Tuesday, the Hunts Bay police in St Andrew seized one Uzi 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing 22 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation on Union Avenue, Kingston 13.
Reports are that about 3:30 p.m., lawmen were on patrol in the area when three men were seen walking along the roadway. In a bid to elude the police, the men ran into a yard. The officers gave chase and the men were accosted. A search was conducted of the premises and the weapon found. The men were subsequently arrested pending further investigations.
