Transport Authority employee removed after allegedly drawing firearm during road stop
A video circulating on social media showing a Transport Authority employee allegedly drawing a firearm during a road operation has prompted swift action by the agency, which removed the worker from frontline duties as part of an internal investigation.
In a statement issued Monday, the Transport Authority emphasized that such conduct is "not part of its training protocols" and violates its Standard Operating Procedures and Public Interaction Policy. The employee was removed with immediate effect, the authority said.
The video, which began circulating last week, shows an individual wearing a vest marked 'Transport Authority' apparently drawing an object from his waist during a roadside interaction with a man and a vehicle. In the footage, the worker warns, "Step back, sir," while the other man retorts, "So, shot me den; shot me den," as a police officer reverses the vehicle.
The Transport Authority reassured the public that it is working closely with the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Firearm Licensing Authority to conduct a thorough review of the incident. No details were provided regarding the exact location or date of the encounter.
"The Transport Authority continues to uphold the principles of courtesy, professionalism, good customer service, and respect for all Jamaicans, and expects all employees to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with these values," the statement added.
The agency also reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable public transportation across Jamaica, while warning that any deviation from established protocols will be treated seriously.
