Ex-cop charged for impersonating a police officer

A man who was discharged by the Jamaica Constabulary Force almost a decade ago, is currently before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for allegedly impersonating a cop.

Khadian Denton is charged on an indictment for false pretence, false declaration and impersonating a police officer. The Crown alleges that on December 5, Denton visited the offices of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch to have a motor vehicle released, after it was seized by the police during a road traffic violation.

Denton indicated that he was a police officer who is stationed at the Hunts Bay Police Station and that he was on three years' suspension from the force. However, through investigation, it was determined that Denton was discharged from the force in 2014.

When quizzed by acting master-in-chambers Her Honour Luciana Jackson, Denton said he does not have a lawyer. He did not enter a plea on Thursday.

Jackson made a fingerprint order for Denton and adjourned the matter until April 16, 2024, for the accused to settle his legal representation.
