December 28, 2023

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fitz Bailey, on Thursday afternoon announced that the police have concluded a nine-month anti-gang operation across the parish of St Catherine.

In his presentation, Bailey, who heads the crime portfolio, reported that 31 members of the Clansman Gang, believed to be involved in a number of shootings and other crimes, have been arrested as of the end of the operation.

"This particular investigation focused on the section of the gang under the direction of the incarcerated leader Tesha Miller, o/c 'Hombre' of De La Vega City, Spanish Town, St Catherine...Notably, our investigation has linked the Clansman Gang to at least 800 murders since 2014," Bailey said.

Earlier this year, several other notable members of the Gang's Andre 'Blackman' Bryan lead faction were convicted and sentenced in the Supreme Court for a number of crimes, including being a part of a criminal organisation.

Bryan himself was sentenced to 39 years and six months in prison.

"The Clans Gang is currently listed among the top five criminal organisations operating in Jamaica. Most of its operations were carried out in Jamaica and its environs. It also influence in boarding parishes to include: Clarendon, Manchester, St Ann, St James and Kingston. But the [police] will continue its focus on disrupting criminal organisations wherever they are," Bailey said.
