Tensions in the Tawes Meadows community in Spanish Town, St Catherine are on a high, as residents protest the police killing of 35-year-old Donald Brown, a bar operator from the area.

The STAR understands Brown was one of three men implicated in the kidnapping of an unidentified businessman on Thursday night. The man was reportedly taken by armed men to a bar and used as bait for a ransom demand of $1 million.

The police were alerted of the situation and carried out a rescue operation.

According to the police, Brown, who was at the bar when they arrived, engaged in gunfire with the lawmen and was shot dead in the process. The two other suspects were taken unto police custody.

Residents from the area blocked the road this morning protesting his killing of Brown. They say he was "cold blooded murder" on the part of the lawmen.

More details soon.
