People's National Party (PNP) councillor candidate for the Friendship division in Westmoreland Western, Maxine Salabie, died unexpectedly earlier today after complaining about feeling unwell.

Salabie replaced Tyrone Guthrie in the division after he was charged for rape and abduction of a 16 year old girl last October.

The STAR understands that Salabie collapsed at a meeting at Hotel Commingle this morning after complaining of not feeling well.

She was rushed to the Savanna La Mar Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Salabie is the second PNP councillor candidate to have died in Region Six of the party's organisations structure before facing the electorate in the local government election.

In October, 58-year-old Paul Nelson from St James West Central died in the Kingston Public Hospital two weeks after he sustained injuries in a motor vehicle accident on the Spring Gardens main road.

The PNP in a Facebook post which has since been removed expressed profound sadness and shock in Salabie's death.
